Designed originally for Commodore W. J. Strawbridge, who headed the Northeast Harbor Fleet of Mount Desert Island in the early '40s, she was designed as a utility boat that could occasionally cruise the islands around Penobscot Bay. The original boat was built in 1940 by Nevins of City Island.
Her design is a bit unique in that the original outboard profile was penned by Rod Stephens, who can be seen at the helm in the image above. The plans were then refined by Al Mason, one of the most famous of Sparkman & Stephens design alumni.
Various copies have been over the years, some with an enclosed bridge as can be seen in this image of Caper.
