Mathis 31 Sportfish Design 1595

This design is a bit of a mystery. The technical files show a project name of Mathis 31'. Mathis was historically a boat builder in Camden, New Jersey which eventually became Trumpy Yachts. Yet Mathis ceased building boats in the mid 1950s and the date of this design is 1961. The boat was extensively tank tested at the Davidson Laboratory at Stevens Institute of New Jersey. The New Horizons Class was developed for and built by Ray Greene & Company of Toledo, Ohio. The boat was introduced in 1961 as a family oriented fiberglass production model. 175 boats were built during the production run. This beautiful 6-meter was built of wood by J.J. Taylor & Sons of Canada. She was launched in 1956. She was a very successful racing yacht in Canadian waters. During World War II, the firm designed a number of vessels for the U.S. Navy. Here is L.P.T. (light patrol torpedo) vessel #810. Two boat were built to this design by Bath Iron Works of Maine. They were launched in 1946 and 1947, respectively. PT810 was powered by four Packard 12-cylinder gasoline liquid cooled aircraft engines developing 2,500 hp each for a top speed of 35 knots, fully loaded. Here are the plans. Dolphin 24 Design 1497

The Dolphin 24 is just a great all around small cruising boat. And she's pretty to boot. Over 300 boats were built during a production run that lasted from 1959 through the early 1970s and built by at least 5 different boat building companies.
